Fly-tipping is a menace that blights attractive countryside. Worse, the problem is growing rapidly.

In 2007-08, there were 1.28m fly-tipping incidents dealt with by local authorities in England, costing £74m a year to clear up. 50% of these incidents involved household waste.

There were 5,326 fly-tipping incidents in Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin in 2007-8. The clean-up bill was £292,925.

Council Incidents Clean-up Cost
Bridgnorth District Council 336 £15,354
North Shropshire District Council 290 £18,108
South Shropshire District Council 247 £14,034
Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council 461 £24,988
Oswestry Borough Council 203 £9,765
Telford and Wrekin Council 3,789 £210,676
Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin Total 5,326 £292,925

CPRE is strongly opposed to fly-tipping because of its impact on the beauty of the countryside, hazards to health and our belief that the majority of 'waste' should be recycled.

You can report litter, graffiti and fly-tipping through:
