29 June 2010. CPRE Shropshire condemns government decision to abolish Commission for Rural Communities

Reacting to the government’s decision to scrap the Commission for Rural Communities, Andy Boddington, Chairman of CPRE Shropshire said:

“The government has torn the rural voice from government. The Commission for Rural Communities has been an important champion for rural counties like Shropshire. Only a week ago the Commission produced a first class report that set out a brighter future for uplands such as the Shropshire Hills.

The new Rural Communities Policy Unit will be buried in the heart of Whitehall and is unlikely ever to become such an effective voice for the struggles of rural life as the Commission for Rural Communities. This is bad news for Shropshire's rural communities."
