March 2009 Herefordshire Council is in the process of awarding planning permission for the wind farm. The Stonewall Hill Conservation Group is preparing for a judicial review of the decision. CPRE is particularly concerned about the role of Natural England in this application. A government body, Natural England describes its role as "to conserve and enhance the natural environment, for its intrinsic value, the wellbeing and enjoyment of people". It first objected to the application and then withdrew its objection once a financial contribution to landscape projects had been secured from the developer. This wind farm will significant damage to the environment, attractiveness and tranquillity of Reeves Hill and the surrounding areas of Herefordshire, Powys and Shropshire. CPRE does not accept that such damage can be compensated for by a landscape enhancement fund. We do not agree that national body set up to "conserve, enhance and manage the natural environment for the benefit of current and future generations" should trade beautiful and tranquil landscapes for developer funding in this way.
May 2008 Plans have been submitted for a wind farm on the tranquil hills near Lingen, Presteigne, and Knighton. The four 105-metre high wind turbines will be taller than any yet constructed in western England or Wales. CPRE Shropshire has strongly objected to this proposal, which will destroy the beauty and tranquillity of an area of the Marches landscape within sight of the Offa's Dyke National Trail and the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
