Each of the government regions is overseen by a Regional Assembly, which is required to produce a regional plan to guide development for 20 years. The West Midlands Regional Assembly published its Regional Spatial Strategy (the formal name for the plan) in June 2004. The government immediately sought to change the plan and ordered a three phase review:
CPRE West Midlands and CPRE Shropshire are closely monitoring these developments and proposing changes to ensure that the county's character and rural environment are preserved. Further Information
