Shropshire has been more successful than many counties in preserving the character of its towns against the invasion of chain shops and identikit supermarkets. It retains its traditional markets, it local shops and its livestock markets. CPRE works with local civic groups to scrutinise planning applications and to rebuff those who would turn out historic towns into clone towns of the same bland shops owned by international chains. We are also concerned to maintain the River Severn as a tranquil and valued river at the heart of the town and county.

CPRE is working hard in Shrewsbury to help develop and protect a green infrastructure within and around the town.
