CPRE Hedgerow Heroes project

Hedge creation 2022/23 (now complete)

hedge creation FINAL.jpg
In the winter of 2022/23 CPRE Shropshire planted new, native hedgerows on 26 sites ranging from working farms (arable and livestock) to smallholdings, cemeteries, churchyards and community orchards. Some sites were up in the Shropshire hills, others down in the flatter ground around Telford and Shrewsbury.

Our original aim of planting 3km of hedgerow increased to a goal of 5.5km with extra funding kindly donated by the Stepping Stones project (National Trust), Severn Rivers Trust, Trees for Shropshire, The Dormouse Group, Rea Valley Community Wildlife Group and Veolia. We helped plant a further 300m+ on local farmers in March bringing the overall length of hedgerow planted to just shy of 6km.

This has only been possible through the generosity of hundreds of hours of volunteer help since late November and the support and help of our dedicated planting leads (Rob Rowe, George Sharp, Charlie Bell, Chris Parker and Jenny Spelling). A huge effort for all concerned and CPRE Shropshire extends its sincere thanks to each and every one of you.

If funding is successful for a third year and you would like to come out and help us plant next winter (2023), please sign up using the form below and we will be in touch with further information in due course.
