CPRE Hedgerow Heroes project
Coppice management training 2024
We are delighted to run another two Coppice Management workshops with Richard Thomason in one of the working coppices at Westhope Woods near Craven Arms this season.
This is a practical workshop with plenty of opportunity for questions. This workshop is aimed at people who wish to restore old, overstood coppice or plant a new one. Last year's workshops were a great success.
Coppiced woodland can be hugely biodiverse with the changing light levels as the coups are cut in rotation. They also provide the products needed for hedgelaying (heatherings/binders and stakes).
We will run a second workshop if there is sufficient demand. Places are limited to 8 per workshop for this. The cost is £45 for the two days, which includes your tuition and all tools. Please bring a packed lunch.
The dates are:
Sat/Sun 26-27 October - course completed
New dates: Thurs/Fri 7/8 November - course completed

The hands-on workshop will cover:

Here is a quote from one of last year's attendees:

"It was a brilliant couple of days, I learnt so much. This is Richard’s chosen subject and his enthusiasm and wealth of knowledge shines through - teaching the practical skills required as well as the history behind the craft and current day coppice management decisions based on core objectives. A great group of people and highly recommended."

Please note there will be a charge this year for these workshops to help us cover costs: £45 per person (total) for the 2 day workshops. NB if the cost is genuinely difficult we will consider applications for free places - please email Sarah on admin@cpreshropshire.org.uk - thank you
